Role Of an Occupational Therapist

The therapist first studies the patient behavior, his environment and situation, then creates a plan for his problem. To cure every patient is a different task because each one has his own issues. To understand their problems and giving solutions is the job of a therapist. Its always a tough task for an occupational therapist to deal with the patient who is suffering from a traumatic situation and is in post traumatic stress disorder. He has to become a counselor and make the patient to feel stress free and fear free which are the main symptoms after a traumatic situation in life.

There are certain characteristics which are required in an occupational therapist apart from his specialties in occupational therapy. He needs to be very patient by nature. He must be having strong interpersonal and soft skills which are required to deal with patients who are not very open at first level. They needed to be explored by the therapist. He needs to be adaptive and kind also because task of occupational therapy is to assist the patient in any living situations like at home or other places where a patient lives. He might be needed to help patient for basic tasks such as eating, cooking and dressing. He has to be very kind and gentle with his patient. So job of an occupational therapist fills himself with positive self esteem also because you are helping someone apart from being in an occupation for money.

If we compare the earnings of an occupational therapist, these are very good as compare to other medical personnel. As OT’s can get as many clients as they can because they work at part time basis for personal clients as well. Also in every kind of working and living environment their help is required for betterment of life. They play a large role in creating one’s real identity in society. So society needs lots of occupational therapists to make it better for an easy life.
